Is a Couples Intensive right for you?

Elizabeth Longsworth, LCSW

Elizabeth Longsworth, LCSW, has an active psychotherapy practice in Pensacola, FL  specializing in couples therapy. She is a graduate of The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy Level I and II and has received extensive training and mentorship through The Couples Institute with Ellyn Bader, Ph.D., and Peter Pearson. She is also a trained EMDR clinician, certified coach, and yoga teacher. Elizabeth’s therapeutic approach is relational, based in neuroscience and mindfulness practice with a focus on interpersonal development, attachment theory, differentiation, and family systems.

I’ve been observing relationships my entire life and I’ve always been fascinated with understanding the ways people communicate with each other. Even as a child, I noticed when the connections between parents, siblings, or friends seemed out of sync and my endless curiosity caused me to question why this happens. As I grew up, married, and had my own children, I became particularly interested in the intimacy of the connection in relationships and how it can stretch and fray through the stressors of daily life.

I continued studying the relatedness between couples while working as a birth doula and childbirth educator. By being invited into the birthing room during intimate experiences with couples, I developed practical skills to facilitate repair in difficulty or friction that naturally arises during labor and birth. Additionally, my years as a Montessori teacher provided invaluable insights into the intricate interplay between parents and children in various situations, which has further informed and enriched my work.

My work with the Couples Institute has been life-changing and has provided the structure to help me understand the power of relationships in a more complete way. It has helped me learn how to navigate my own family dynamics and has truly enhanced my relationship with my husband of over 20 years. I use these practices daily as a partner, as a parent, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a therapist.

I believe Couples Intensives are the quickest ways to get to the root of your relationship issues.

I offer Couples Intensives because it’s challenging to achieve the amount of education, self-discovery, and pathways for authentic connection and relating with your partner in hour-long sessions

I want to help you create deeper meaning in your relationships that will generate positive change throughout your life.

This blend of neuroscience techniques like attachment theory and differentiation helps you identify your desires and how to hold them in your relationship with others.

I walk beside you as you discover your own way.

This way being with others takes practice and time, but our work together will help you build the muscles to improve all of the relationships in your life.

I lead my sessions and intensives in a relational style filled with warmth, honesty, humor, focus, and connection so that you can feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are. We don’t hide parts of ourselves here. Bring your full self to our sessions so that we can get down to the real work of creating positive change and growth in your life and relationships. I won’t even bat an eye if you express yourself in expletives. I’m no stranger to salty language.
